ÖBB Tickets App Reviews

All-in-one app

One app does it all. However, its display doesnt fit well on my iPhone 5 :/

Useless for connections

This is not useful unless you know where the connections are.

On ipad air 2. Half of the interface is missing

Completely useless on iPad as it cannot be used to show a ticket alredy bought, let alone to but a ticket. The problem seems to be that the app assumes fixed screen proportions and vital butons end up outside of the screen.

Where is my ticket???

It is impossible to retrieve a ticket that you have both in the past version!!!! Very bad app!

Utter rubbish.

Crashes. Doesnt accept payments. Fiddly to use.

Super complicated

To be honest, I miss the old ticket app. I still cant fully figure out how to use this one and it takes surprisingly way to many steps to even do simple things. How do I add my Vorteilscard? How do I book a ticket only for my bicycle? No idea. I had to run to the ticket machine and almost missed my train because this app is way too impractical and takes too long to use. If you use this app, do it well in advance, otherwise hope there isnt a long line at the ticket machines! Please put back the old app while you completely redesign this one!

Great Design! Great Functionality! But some flaws...

I love the design and functionality of the app. Its great to see the ÖBB modernizing so rapidly! Kudos! To accompany the new design of the infoscreens on the RJ and the soon to be reliable Wi-Fi onboard, this app just joins in perfectly! But there are still some bugs: 1. after changing my password on oebb.at, I can still access my account in this app via my old password! The new one is supposedly "wrong". This is a rather significant bug. 2. when typing in a destination/origin, Vienna is chosen as a standard if you dont tap on one of the destinations recommended by the app. Your input is practically ignored. This is also rather annoying... 3. for some reason, the saved journeys that display on the home screen all the time, dont reverse when im in destination city (even when the option is checked) Always need to save 2 routes... Now a wishlist: apple watch app from Scotty should be implemented here too! The availability to select the seat you want to reserve on the RJ Passbook to display tickets/Vorteilscards/Österreichcards in the future (PLEASE!)

Nice design but important functions are missing

The look is great but it seems no longer possible to calculate routes between street addresses (just stations or stops) and trips cant be exported to the calendar.

Catastrophic

...especially if you booked a ticket using the "mobile only" functionality on the website, and this crappy app version wont show it. all it does is keep crashing. (error id 4003) DO NOT USE THIS APP.

Eh

Easy to use interface and clear, minimal booking screen--- but every, single time I go to enter my credit card infor to pay, the session "times out." Whats the point of having a useful app if it wont let you pay on it?

Luxus/brave design but not practical

first of all, it seems only take care of the big screen . it looks so bad on my iPhone 5. The scale and proportion are not well planned. The search region was cramed into title banner, which is so unpractical. secondly, the function like sparschine search and past tecket are missing or may be not enough good to stand out. it was tragedy. last but not te least, the big colorful picture will look pale when customer had problem finding wished button. the updated version forbids the older version, whih forced me to use the new version, which seems for me really arrogant. overall,it is on one hand so amazing and the other hand too mugh brave to redesign a national transportation app like this. Fingers cross, it is only a beta version. please dont make it so dramatical big step on it.

When the developers don’t use the app

This is what you get. Absolutely bonkers how there seems to be no testing of any kind involved in the deployment of customer-facing tech for ÖBB. (I’m sure there _is_ testing, which makes this reality even worse.)

Kann mein Ticket nicht zahlen

Habe schon öfter meinen Zug verpasst, weil ich noch schnell mein Ticket am Automaten kaufen musste, da es in der App oft nicht funktioniert. Sehr nervig!

Doesn’t send you the tickets!!

Skip this app. It gets bad reviews for a reason.

Worse than useless

Downloaded and installed Twice. No schedules, just picture of trains.

Compré los tickets y en al app no me salen!

Pones tus tickets y sale como si no tienes nada !!! Malísima !

Good App

The app works just fine, don’t understand why people are complaining so much…

No Problems for a US Traveler

I found this app to be easy to use, quick, and informative. I purchased tickets using my US credit card without issue, immediately received confirmation emails, and was able to easily access my tickets from the app home screen. On the day of travel, my app updated as changes to my train’s schedule occurred. I’m very pleased with ÖBB.

Won’t let me buy youth tickets for my children

After downloading the app and putting all my information, I wanted to purchase the vorteilscard jugend (sp?) for my under-26 year old children. It didn’t allow me to do that because it had my birthdate. Annoying… does each child have to install the app to buy the card?

Features Scam Travelers

Take careful note that even with a first class ticket, you are not guaranteed a seat on any given train. My partner and I would have not purchased first class tickets to sit on the first class floor. Why can't seats be assigned with a ticket purchase? Isn't dangerous to have trains moving several hundred km/hr packed like NYC subway cars? We are very upset with this travel experience.

Bad design

I try to reset the password. I get the help email and it brings up my Tesla app ...

People complain for nothing

App works exactly as it should for me

Terrible app

Not very user friendly

Doesn’t work

Registered, never received email,

Purchased tickets with no problem!

I was able to order tickets without making an account first, and paid with my Visa card with no problem. Confirmation was immediately sent to my inbox. I was unable to do these things on my laptop, and very happy it worked on my phone.

Super difficult to use

The app slogan is “fast track to your ticket”, but the user interface is confusing and I could not find how to load my ticket.

Doesn’t Work

Don’t bother, go to the station early and stand in line instead. Like other reviewers say, this app did not accept my credit card after I entered all the information. I never have problems with my credit card, so it’s this app/company. I had to go to the ticket office one floor down in the Budapest Keleti station and wait in line. This caused me to miss my train and ruined my entire schedule. Thank you very much, OBB.

Great for airport runs!

I’ve had no troubles with this app! It works well and it’s nice to be able to purchase tickets at the Austrian price and not pay to use a different service. I especially like using it for airport transfers from the main train station to the airport.

Negative reviews out of date, fine app

Works well for buying and showing tickets

No offline mode

The app holds your tickets, but will not open/load without internet. There’s a pretty obvious flaw in such a system. Why not just create tickets that we can add to our Apple wallet like modern travel apps?

Recently reworked and not everything works

The location services setting doesn’t seem to work and tracks your location even when the app isn’t targeted. All of your route favorites will be removed after updating. The new ticket window is a big improvement because you don’t need to scroll down for the code when the conductor checks tickets

Not impressed

Not quite to the minimal standard I was hoping for - wasn’t able to book with US credit card, WiFi barely functional (if at all), credit card machine in dining car not functional (cash only). Seats do not recline at all in Eco/2nd class.

Very confusing application - ticket generation and format VERY confusing

I think a YouTube or instruction manual should accompany this app. And requiring these is the definition of a POOR User Interface. I am on an Austrian Train now and it is comfortable clean, on time, and the staff are pleasant. It is a shame this ÖBB App and OBB website are so bad. Really really bad.

Fantastic App

Dumbfounded at the negative reviews. Unless there were issues in the past that were since corrected. This was fantastic for a traveler from the US to book ticket, upgrade, see schedules and monitor changes in the timelines for connections.

Useless

This app is just their website. Want to buy tickets for a journey? You are redirected to their website where you must fill out your journey again, then put in your credit card details. Not helpful

No way to cancel the ticket

I booked a ticket and somehow the interface selected wrong date even though I remember clicking on the correct one. I didn’t notice it and paid for the ticket. 5 mins later I realized the mistake but there was already no way to cancel or modify the booking. I called to customer support right away but they did nothing saying it’s only 3 mins window when you can cancel the ticket. 3 mins is way too small, with such a confusing interface. There should be at least 15 mins to fix the mistakes. Horrible experience, if you have options please use other railways.

Terrible experience

I bought 5 first class tickets from Vienna to Munich and this is the worse train experience I’ve had in 20 years of traveling. They oversold the tickets and I’m standing with my family. What happened to German efficiency? Sad.

So bad

Even if you thought it would not be possible to make the App worse than the website- OEBB knows how to surprise you. Also it’s borderline fraud as you do one click too much in this utterly user unfriendly app and end up with a non refundable ticket. I just lost 400 € because of it. Stay away from OEBB.

Crash when item is in cart

The app keeps crashing when I have a ticket in the cart making it impossible to buy tickets. Everything else is amazing!!!

Anton

This app doesn’t allow to pay using Apple pay.

Wunderbar

This app works great and is an enormous convenience for traveling around Austria and even to neighboring countries. I don’t know why it has such a low rating— probably because people only rate it to complain when something goes wrong.

No Apple Pay nor integration with Safari saved credit cards

Not only this app will FORGET your credit cards, but there is no integration with the credit cards saved in Safari, so your only option is to MANUALLY enter your CC details when you are scrambling to get onto the train (and hope 3D-Secure works). Absolute junk. Also this app will occasionally refuse to show the tickets you just bought. Unbelievable.

Larcenous app

I bought a 2nd class ticket from Linz to Vienna, and then later tried to reserve a seat. The app said that there were no 2nd class reservations so I selected 1st class. The app showed both 1st and Business class selected and I couldn’t deselect Business. I paid 15 euro and it gave me a seat. It turns out the seat was in business class. So of course the train conductor told me I was in the wrong seat because I didn’t have a 1st class ticket, which is what I was trying to purchase to begin with, and that I either had to pay 35 euro more (which I didn’t want to pay) or go sit in 2nd class even though I had paid for an upgrade. Eventually after arguing he had me sit in 1st class. But if I hadn’t argued I would have paid 15 euro for nothing. How many people do you do this to? Mobile apps aren’t really that hard to build correctly.

Impossible to pay

I love train service in Austria. The app is not very smart when finding destinations or repeating search. That would still be OK. But the UI/UX of adding credit card is so bad. Tiny inputs. No support for password managers like @1password. So when you need to copy paste the inputs always clear after switching between apps. You can copy/paste just once for cc number, date and ccv2. :-( And when you add the card from your memory you get Error 403 from payment... :-( It is year 2020 dear OBB guys! Outsource it to professional UX/IT vendor.

Can’t Make Payments

Similar to the person that made the previous post; The app did not allow me to make a payment with a US credit card. I tried it 3 times and the app would just close down on all 3 attempts. However, after deleting the app, I was able to purchase my tickets via their website. I had to delete their app because when I was online the website would automatically open the app to take the final steps of purchasing the tickets.

Badly programmed

The app does not integrate with Apple Pay, does not integrate with Apple Wallet and does not even provide the correct field codes so that they can be auto filled. Email, credit card and personal information have to be manually put in every time.

Impossible to complete a purchase from the USA

The main problem for me was that I was not able to complete a train ticket purchase with a US credit card. I tried 3 cards and the transaction always fails as soon as Pay Now is clicked. It doesn’t say a thing but no confirmation shows nor email is received. I tried the website, too. It always fails there, too, but, at least, it lets you know that it was rejected by the credit card company. This is while you wait for a text message with a passcode from your credit card company. The rejection happens before you have a chance to enter the passcode. Also, there is a reserved seat option in the app, but you cannot select the actual seat. The website, however, does let you select the seat. So if you are in Austria use the website, if you can. For me, I had to ask a favor from an Austrian acquaintance, who purchased the tickets for me.

Works fine, no apple wallet or ticket image support

This is fine for searching and buying, but then it’s just 2007 again as the app doesn’t do anything after the ticket is bought

Zero stars if possible

Flat out _does not_ work (iPad, 6th gen., iOS 12.4.1 and iPhone). Rejects one credit card out of hand, charges another but issues no ticket. These folks could learn something from their Swiss and German rail friends, who have written successful, easy to use apps that _WORK_!

Unable to add credit card because my device is jailbroken!

I started using this app, but when I needed to add a card it doesn't allow me to add it because it says that my device is jailbroken! What's the problem with that?!

Unbelievably bad

I use apps all the time to purchase tickets. On this itinerary I’ve bought tickets on United, Ryanair, Trenitalia, Wizz (Hungarian airline), etc. No problem - easy peasy. Not so with ÖBB. I thought I’d purchased a ticket, but it never showed up on my Amex. A charge for $1.00 for “WWW.OEBB.AT TICKET FOR ALL” was posted, though. I have no idea what that charge is buying me. I’ve just given up because I can’t find a way to put in date of travel. If you want to feel stupid just waste some time trying to book with the OBB app. Now to find a website where I can buy a train ticket between Budapest and Vienna.

Useless - can’t pay online

Terrible so upsetting

This may be the first company I’ve known to have an app where you can download it on different devices log in the exact same way and your reservations will not show up the same on different devices? Most wont even show up. It’s so discomforting for travelers to worry about this. I had a phone especially bought to take on my trip and I had to call and speak to someone who wasn’t sympathetic about needing emails of my reservations . He sent them but I don’t think then people should be cruel about people needing to call in since this log in doesn’t equally save anyone’s info? 😞

Very frustrating

I just “updated” my app and it didn’t remember any of my information. I have purchased tickets and cannot access them. I try to log on, I have forgotten my password, I get a prompt to update my password and enter my email for a link and three times they tell me that an email is sent, yet I have received no email. The support link leads to a phone number, I call the number but the rep speaks no English... What am I supposed to do? What is the point of updating an app if the update makes it useless? Terribly frustrating! And yes, totally useless.

Seat reservation fail, please fix!

The app is fine. The only major problem I have is seat reservation. Sure you can reserve a seat but you can't choose where you sit.

Discounts are broken

You can’t view or add discounts. If you try to add a new discount (e.g. Vorteilscard) and don’t enter a correct number once, there is no option of adding one later.

Not worth the inconvenience

Super complicated and staff on train get super grumpy when you can’t get the app to show the ticket/seat reservations. I had to buy another ticket on the train because the one on the app couldn’t be displayed as they’re was no internet available. I thought I was being smart to take a screen print of the QR code but I didn’t realize there are different QR codes per ticket downloaded. So, with no access to our second ticket, I had to pay for one on the train. Very cumbersome and kinda ruined my experience of OBB. This is not Silicon Valley, apps are unreliable and because it required a constant connection and the ticket can’t be down loaded, it’s pretty useless. Do yourself a favor and just buy a physical ticket at the station. Much more reliable.

Error in credit card processing

I worked with my credit card company to find out that the expiration date was being incorrectly submitted. I repeated the process with the credit card company on the phone and what I entered is not what was transmitted! I then successfully bought on a web browser. It is terrible that an app from a reputable company can mess up the billing causing customers to waste so much time!

It's "Ok"

App is fine for looking up ticket prices but booking tickets against a USA-based credit card doesn't work. I'm planning a trip to Austria and Slovakia. I tried two different cards and neither would process. I spoke to both credit card companies and the transactions were rejected because the request from ÖBB had the wrong three digit security code. I know I entered the codes correctly. In any case, I used the ÖBB Website and was able to buy and print my tickets.

Super complicated

To be honest, I miss the old ticket app. I still can't fully figure out how to use this one and it takes surprisingly way to many steps to even do simple things. How do I add my Vorteilscard? How do I book a ticket only for my bicycle? No idea. I had to run to the ticket machine and almost missed my train because this app is way too impractical and takes too long to use. If you use this app, do it well in advance, otherwise hope there isn't a long line at the ticket machines! Please put back the old app while you completely redesign this one!
